BANG!

Comic Art Collection

Inspiration

Comic Book

I have always been captivated by comics, whether it's Marvel, DC, or others. Through my art, I aim to create something that evokes the nostalgic hours spent immersed in those old comic books from years ago. One of the ways I achieve this is through the use of color palettes (you can try to guess which palette is connected to each hero or villain!).

For instance, a dark palette reminiscent of Batman and Gotham, or the blue, red, and yellow palette can be associated with Superman. However, relying solely on colors is not enough for inspiration.

I also incorporate various iconic elements of pop art, paying homage to great artists like Lichtenstein and Warhol. You'll find polka dots, distinctive dot shading, stripes, and other elements commonly used by pop and comic artists. Additionally, I decided to divide my canvas into cells, reminiscent of a typical comic strip.

Technical Overview

This project is written using pure p5.js and TypeScript. The core of the project revolves around a polygon subdivision algorithm, which serves as the foundation for my comic stripes. I have implemented various initial composition setups for the pages, from which the artwork is built.

After constructing the initial stripe, I incorporate semi-transparent polygons into the cells to create unique and eccentric shapes within. Some pieces also feature color inheritance which especially in more busy pieces help to achieve a more clean look.

To enhance the overall aesthetic, I add typical pop art textures, such as dot shading, chessboard patterns, and spirals inside the cells. As a final touch, I include hand-drawn like contours to infuse a sense of authenticity.

Halving Conference 1Halving Conference 2

In April 2024 the 4th Bitcoin halving occurred. To celebrate this fact, key Polish crypto communities organized a conference in central Warsaw. During the event there were 3 discussion panels and an exhibition of generative art done by Polish artists.

I'm especially grateful to NFT Polska team for inviting me and always supporting me in my artistic journey.
